Will there be any surprise cuts for the Dolphins this summer?

The Miami Dolphins’ roster overhaul continued this spring with great success. The Dolphins have reworked several key position groups since the end of the 2019 season, starting first and foremost with the defensive end room and the cornerback room. Offensively, the Dolphins’ offensive line is a drastically different unit than the one that took the field at the end of the 2019 season — all for the better.

But which players from the 2019 roster may be in for a rude awakening when roster cuts come ahead of the 2020 regular season? Who are the veteran players who may find their jobs on the line before Miami cuts down to a 53-man roster? Here are three sleeper candidates to face being cut at the end of the 2020 preseason:

OT Julien Davenport

Davenport was a part of the return for Laremy Tunsil in the blockbuster deal made with the Houston Texans last August. But Davenport’s play in Miami has been anything but inspired — and if the interior line group steps up and allows Jesse Davis to play a utility/swing tackle role, Davenport may be an expendable talent for Miami as they look to keep their best combination of blockers.

OLB Sam Eguavoen

The writing on the wall for Eguavoen isn’t good based on how many new linebackers will be in the fray for Miami in 2020. But Eguavoen’s play in 2019 should be looked at in a favorable light, he did well with his reps throughout the majority of the season. His potential status as a cut candidate is simply a numbers game.

RB Myles Gaskin

Speaking of numbers games, Gaskin was a 2019 7th-round selection but he’s going to have a tough time finding his way onto the roster. The Dolphins will boast fullback Chandler Cox along with new additions in 2020 in Jordan Howard and Matt Breida. Throw in 2020 7th-round pick Malcolm Perry and 2019 UDFA Patrick Laird, who beat out Gaskin for playing time last season, and it figures to be a tough task for this recent draft pick to make the final cut.
