Will there be another heatwave in August? Met Office weather forecast for next 30 days

The country has been baking in a heatwave over the last few days, with sizzling temperatures exceeding 30C in some areas.

However forecasters expect the sweltering weather to come to an end this weekend, with thunderstorms across much of England and Wales predicted.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning across parts of the UK for Saturday and Sunday, warning heavy rain and thundery showers could cause flooding and transport disruption.

So with the end of the balmy weather in sight, you may be wondering if there will be another heatwave to come next month in August.

Here, we take a look at the Met Office's long-range forecast, which was last updated on July 21, to see what is expected for the rest of summer.

On Tuesday, the Met Office's long-range forecast talked of 'above-average temperatures', however it has now been updated.

Their outlook for next week and into early August - from Monday, July 26 to Wednesday, August 4 - looks unsettled.

They warn of thunder at times to start, with temperatures returning to 'near normal' for most, especially in the north west.

But into early August, forecasters say there will likely be a mix of sunny spells between heavy showers.

Temperatures are 'around average', the report says.

So, there doesn't look to be any signs of a heatwave to the start of August.

Looking further into the month - from Thursday, August 5 to Thursday, August 19 - it's expected to be another mixed picture.

The long-range forecast says the period won't begin with a dominant weather type.

Drier conditions with sunny spells are likely to be interspersed with showers or longer periods of rain, it states.

It's set to look brighter towards the middle of August though, where it is most likely to become more settled 'with drier and warmer conditions developing'.

So, it looks like there's no guarantee of another UK heatwave for August at this stage.
