Will there be a second series of Before We Die? Stars speak out

Stars of Channel 4's Bristol-set thriller Before We Die have addressed the possibility of a second series.

The second episode airs tonight (June 2) after last week's opener saw Clifton feature heavily and a dramatic shooting scene set in the Mendips.

Lesley Sharp, who plays Detective Inspector Hannah Laing, spoke to Radio Times about the prospects of a second run.

She told the magazine that the characters "all survive by the skin of their teeth so they need a bit of rest and recuperation if they're coming back".

"But you know, I think the thing is those questions are always down to – they're sort of not really down to us," she added. "It's down to whether or not the show proves to be something that people want to watch.

"You can't second guess that. You can keep your fingers crossed because you think something's good but there's no knowing."

The show, filmed in Bristol and Belgium, is adapted from a hit Swedish series of the same name, which did go on to have a second series.

Locations for the remake include Victoria Square, Brandon Hill Park and The Paragon in Clifton; York Road in Montpelier; The Horsefair in the city centre; and Stokes Croft.

Asked if there could be a second series, Patrick Gibson, who stars as Laing's son Christian, told Digital Spy: "There's no plot lines that are left unanswered necessarily, but the show ends on – like yeah absolutely [there could be] more, it could develop.

"I would love to [make a second season], I think even just to see... because for every character there's an emotional arc that happens where they're not the same person as they are at the start of the show.

"[To] pick that up and see a whole other few episodes with them would be really cool... hopefully!"

The production team filmed in September 2020 and the first three months of 2021, shooting at numerous locations around the city.

There was aerial filming above a number of Bristol’s green spaces, including Sparke Evans, Netham and Castle Parks.

Billed as “a breathless crime thriller”, the series follows Laing's investigation into the Mimica crime family, who run a successful restaurant and drug ring in Bristol.

Before We Die airs at 9pm on Wednesdays on Channel 4. The full series is available as a box set on All 4.
