Will there be a season 2 of Normal People? All we know so far

Normal People arrived on our screens just in time to provide hours of entertainment while stuck in lockdown.

The show has skyrocketed with social media flooded with people getting haircuts inspired by Marianne or swooning over Connell.

But whether the show is inspiring your latest hair style, making you stalk Paul Mescal's instagram or just genuinely touching your heart. Fans are all thinking the same thing.

Will there be a season two?

Despite the fact that Sally Rooney's novel on which the show is based doesn't have a sequel, its clear fans are desperate to find out what happens next in Connell and Marianne's love story.

The Hollywood Reporter asked Producer Ed Guiney about the possibility of the series continuing past season one.

He said: "We're not thinking about a second season at the moment,"

"Maybe in the future at some point in time. What we are doing is the same team are adapting Conversations with Friends, which is Sally's first book. Obviously it is a cousin of Normal People n a way, but it's also quite different."

"It feels like we tell a very complete story about these characters' lives, and so it's not something we're moving to do. Maybe there's a version of it down the line."

Even though a second season isn't in the works yet. Director Lenny Abrahamson was optimistic in an interview he did with Radio Times.

“I have a fantasy of doing a kind of ten year seeing where they are in ten years time sort of thing, if I’m not too decrepit at that point,”

Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones admitted in an interview with NME that although season two isn't in the works, revisiting their characters is something they would love to do.

Mescal said: “Series one is the book. But we don’t know what’s on the other side. The great thing about these two characters is that their lives continue.”

“I think what’s glorious about it is that the book definitely feels final about their lives. They’re still existing in the world somewhere. I think that’s probably a question for Sally and everybody else,”

“But I put my hand up and say I’d play Connell until the cows come home.”

Edgar-Jones agreed with him: “Same. Yeah, very much so.”
