Love Story, the buzzy show dramatising the romance of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, just aired its finale, and everyone’s already clamouring for deets about a possible season two.
The Ryan Murphy-produced series was always conceived as an anthology, with each season to reenact a splashy romance from throughout history.
First cab off the rank was iconic ‘90s It couple JFK and Carolyn, who were portrayed by Paul Anthony Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon.
The series’ reexamination of their lives and tragic deaths brought a whole bunch of fact-checkers and would-be historians out of the woodwork, and prompted more than a few of its real-life counterparts to come forward with their thoughts.
But Murphy, refusing to give up his TV reign, is unlikely to stop now. So here’s all the tea about Love Story season two, including whether it’s been greenlit, what the creators have said, and which famous couple might take the spotlight.
Will there be a Love Story season 2?
At the time of writing, season two of Love Story has not yet been officially confirmed. However, it is highly likely it will get the greenlight, since the first season was a mammoth success. It sat atop the most-watched chart on Disney+ in Australia for many weeks, but it isn’t only the viewership that makes a second season seem promising.
Love Story is part of a suite of other Murphy anthologies that have enjoyed multiple seasons. American Crime Story, for example, reenacts different criminal scandals in each instalment, and has so far pumped out three seasons spanning OJ Simpson to Monica Lewinsky.
Feud, meanwhile, documents famous feuds throughout history, and it too has reached the two-season mark. Basically, Murphy can’t be stopped, and there’s no shortage of true stories for him to draw from. Or exploit, depending on who you ask.
With all that, it’d be surprising if Love Story doesn’t move forward for a second season.
What will Love Story season 2 be about?
While there’s no greenlight (yet), those involved in Love Story have given us a few hints as to which couple would *theoretically* take centre stage in a second season.
When asked in March which famous romance would feature in season two, Love Story creator Connor Hines went right ahead and pitched one.
“Maybe Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton,” Hines told Vanity Fair. “They have the right intensity.”
For those not across the tale, Taylor and Burton would certainly fit the Love Story bill. The two iconic actors fell in love on the set of Cleopatra while married to other partners, with their passionate affair ending in them leaving their spouses and getting married in 1964.
It’s a salacious story entrenched in Hollywood lore that has Murphy’s written name all over it, and the fact it’s from the ‘60s leaves him less exposed to catching strays from the subjects.
What do fans want Love Story season 2 to be about?
Still, Hines’ tease is unconfirmed, and the absence of any confirmation has fans speculating a whole bunch of other famous romances Murphy could pull from. Could you imagine a season documenting Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks?
Or what about Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love? Or Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears? Or, hear me out: Brangelina’s infamous aughties love triangle with Jennifer Aniston. The possibilities are endless!
Again, this is all speculation at this stage, since a second season of Love Story hasn’t even been confirmed. But hey, a girl can dream!
When will Love Story season 2 be released?
