Will the weather stay warm over the weekend? Here's the Met Office forecast for the North East

The North East will continue to enjoy warm weather this weekend - but it won't be as hot as other parts of the country.

The region has been basking in glorious sunshine over the past few days and on Friday the mercury was due to hit 24C.

The Met Office says it will remain warm over the weekend though temperatures will not be as high as other parts of the UK.

Saturday will see highs of around 17C and Sunday will be 19C. However other UK areas might see temperatures rising to 25C or 26C.

Bonnie Diamond, a meteorologist with the Met Office, said: "We have had a prolonged spell of dry sunny weather for a while now and this will continue through the weekend.

"In the North East, temperatures will not be as warm compared to other parts of the country. This is because of a cooler breeze coming from the North Sea.

"While Friday will see highs of 24C, this will drop to 17C or 18C on Saturday. But it will still be warm, with temperatures higher than average for this time of year.

"There might be a little bit of fog first thing in the morning but it will burn away quite quickly and will be short-lived, giving way to bright sunshine.

"Sunday will also be warm with highs of 18C or 19C."

With lockdown restrictions eased, people are allowed to venture outdoors for longer periods.

However people are urged to stick to social distancing guidelines and stay 2m apart from others at all times.
