Will the real SA Best candidate please stand up?

An independent candidate for the northern suburbs seat of Ramsay said he would continue using the slogan 'SA's Best candidate', despite Nick Xenophon's SA Best party making a complaint to the electoral commissioner.

Mark Aldridge used the term on a post on his Facebook page, with local SA Best candidate Tarnia George accusing him of, "a deliberate attempt to mislead people in Ramsay".

"Unfortunately, we have had a few concerned SA Best supporters from Ramsay contact our offices to say that if this man is associated with SA Best, they won't support us," Ms George said.

But Mr Aldridge defended the use of the term, accusing Mr Xenophon of getting the idea for his party's name from his previous election campaigns.

"I should put in a complaint about them using SA Best. I've used SA's Best candidate, I think for three elections now, going back to something like 2008," Mr Aldridge said.

"If Nick's grabbed an idea that I've used in the past, that's fine.

"Personally I wouldn't want anyone to confuse me with being involved with Nick from my point of view."

Mr Aldridge has run in a number of state and federal elections, both as an independent and as a One Nation candidate.

He said he's not concerned about SA Best's complaint, but he said Mr Xenophon should have contacted him directly.

"I know electoral law I think better than the commissioner herself so if she wants to try me on electoral law or Nick, I'm quite happy to go there," Mr Aldridge said.

"Nick and I have known each other for 20 years, 15 years.

"He could have picked up the phone."
