MUMBAI: Will the upcoming election of the Mumbai Cricket Association be held as per schedule on September 28? That was the speculation doing the rounds after the association's 85th AGM on Tuesday.
"There all kinds of possibilities in the world, it is for the election officer to make a decision. As per the constitution, he needs four weeks to conduct the process (of elections). He might go ahead (of it) by two weeks, or he might conduct it on September 28. Last time, the election was conducted in a week. It's his prerogative," MCA secretary Sanjay Naik said.
A few members raised the issue of eligibility of a few clubs not being allowed to vote in the forthcoming elections. The reason being, they are not registered with the charity commissioner as the new constitution of the MCA, which came into force three years ago, demands.
"The General Body has approved (the decision) to move the Supreme Court to file an exemption to the charity commissioner. That's what our members have asked for, and we've approved that," Naik said.
Meanwhile, MCA president Vijay Patil expressed satisfaction with his three-year tenure.
"I would term my tenure as very satisfactory. One of the most satisfying things during my tenure was the performance of the Mumbai teams (in the last season). While it might not sound like a big deal to the old stalwarts, for the last six-seven years we have seen a downward trend in terms of performances. So this year [2021-22] was special as we reached the Ranji Trophy and U-19 finals and won the U-25 tournament," Patil said.
In the forthcoming elections, a member and chairman of the Mumbai Premier League will also be elected. Earlier, they were appointed at the AGM.
