SHILLONG: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday said several measures would be initiated to reduce taxes imposed by the government on petrol and diesel prices.
The chief minister said even though it might cause a substantial revenue loss for the state, the step would be taken to provide relief to people.
Addressing a rally ahead of the Mawryngkneng assembly constituency by-election in support of National People's Party (NPP) candidate Pynidaid Sing Syiem at Umpling here, party president Conrad said, "I will definitely examine this matter. I cannot say anything right now."
He told the gathering that as a chief minister, it was required for him to explain to the people of the state that his government was doing whatever it could to minimise their inconvenience owing to hike in fuel prices.
