Will Smith opens up about 'spectacular' time in his life after lockdown bloat

Will Smith says he is in the most "spectacular time" of his life after his lockdown weight gain.

The Hollywood actor appeared on Lorraine on Thursday morning alongside his King Richard co-stars Demi Singleton and Saniyya Sidney, where he discussed his weight gain in lockdown.

Will initially put on weight for the role as tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams' father Richard - but found himself piling on the pounds himself when the Covid pandemic hit.

Speaking on the ITV show, he said: "This is such a spectacular time in my life. Everything is - I'm 53 and a combination of King Richard, my memoir."

Will also opened up about his weight gain in lockdown, as he revealed he ended up "adding a couple of cookies" to his weight gain after having a "make under" for the movie role.

He said: "I'm 15 kilos down from that time. I put on weight for the role then Covid hit so I had to hold that weight for another four months. I held it and then it was Covid, so I added a little something. I added a couple of cookies to it."

Earlier this year, Will explained how he was in the "worst shape of his life" after piling on the pounds during lockdown.

Will made the admission as he spoke on ITV's Lorraine (ITV)

"I'm gonna be real wit y'all - I'm in the worst shape of my life," he wrote alongside the picture as he showed off his physique.

Fans and friends praised him for his brutally honest post.

One wrote at the time: "Man! You have been in shape your whole life. Enjoy the dad bod with pride! Let’s end... the carbs discrimination."

"This is the most amazing post in the history of social media," another added, whilst a third shared: "You’re Will Smith!! You can be in whatever shape you want".

A fourth shared: "Love this so much. Everyone has had a hard year – even the biggest celebs in the world."

And a few days later, Will took to social media to reveal he had teamed up with YouTube to create a video series about his fitness.

"This is the body that carried me through an entire pandemic and countless days grazing thru the pantry," he penned.

"I love this body, but I wanna FEEL better. No more midnight muffins…this is it. I'm gonna get in the BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE!!!!! Teaming up with @YouTube to get my health & wellness back on track. Hope it works."
