Will Smith launches Fresh Prince-themed clothing line so you can sit on your throne as the prince of Bel-Air

Will Smith has released an athleticsclothing line themed around the hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

In the early 1990s, before he faced the destruction of the world in Independence Day and before he was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of boxer Muhammad Ali in the 2001 biopic, Smith gained worldwide recognition starring in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Smith’s character – which was a fictionalised version of himself – was known for his quick wit, mischievous nature and his bright, bold sartorial style.

More than two decades after the final episode of the television programme aired on NBC, Smith has launched a clothing collection based around the show, dubbed Bel-Air Athletics.

The range includes items of apparel including retro gym shorts, T-shirts, jackets and cropped hoodies, with prices ranging from £6 to £185.

Smith shared the news of the fashion launch on Instagram, posting a video in which he is filmed modelling clothing from the collection.

“I put my thang down, flipped it and reversed it. Then I put it on sale,” the 51-year-old said in the caption, referencing Missy Elliott’s 2002 song “Work It”.

In the video, the actor demonstrates that the track jacket in the range, which retails for £88, has a reversible design.

He also displays some of his basketball skills, handling a limited-edition basketball that bears the same paisley print as the jacket.

The Bel-Air Athletics range is only available to purchase until Monday 14 October.

Several of Smith’s Instagram followers expressed their excitement over the collection.

“Why did this take soooooo long to drop?? I wanted to rock this during my school years,” one person commented underneath the video posted by Smith.

“It’s been YEARS since Fresh Prince and people still buying merch and love the show,” another added.
