Will set up 16,000 community clinics in 6 months: Punjab health minister

PATIALA: Punjab medical education and research, health and family welfare minister Dr Vijay Singla on Monday said that the state government will set up 16,000 community clinics to ensure better health care to every citizen and faculty in medical colleges, doctors in civil hospitals, shortage of paramedical staff and medicines will be ensured in the next six months.

Besides, every resident in the state would get a ‘health card’, he added.

He also asked the government doctors to refrain from private practice, saying they must give maximum time to their government hospitals and OPD of indoor patients. Singla, who is a 1988 batch student of Government Dental College, Patiala, was speaking at the annual function and award ceremony of his college and hospital as the chief guest.

Regarding the demands raised by Dental College principal Dr Jeevan Lata, he said they would be fulfilled by the government.

Claiming that reforms in health services is the top priority of chief minister Bhagwant Mann, he said the state government has decided to bring a revolution in the healthcare sector. While replying to a query, Singla replied that special attention would be given to upgrade territory and secondary care institutions in Patiala, Faridkot and Amritsar besides improving the super-speciality centres of these hospitals.
