Will Ryan Fitzpatrick provide spark for Dolphins in Week 7 vs. Bills?

The Miami Dolphins are slated to head north and face off against a 4-1 Buffalo Bills team this upcoming weekend — a game in which the Dolphins will be grossly outgunned and are once again two touchdown underdogs for. And the Dolphins, in preparations for the game, have made a change with their starting quarterback. Veteran passer Ryan Fitzpatrick steps back under center for Miami’s showdown with their AFC East division rivals.

But the question begs to be asked: what kind of spark should the Dolphins expect? Against a lesser defense, it would be reasonable to think Miami could see a jump in scoring. After all, Fitzpatrick’s first two starts came against a stout Baltimore Ravens squad and the New England Patriots. But in those games, Miami scored 10 points. And the Bills have an equally imposing defense to the one in New England this year.

In short, this is a tough assignment no matter what and it is hard to envision an outcome in which Ryan Fitzpatrick produces significantly better offensive results in Week 7. Fitzpatrick is aggressive, but the Bills are a ball hawking secondary and incredibly fast in the front seven. It’s a troublesome mix for an offensive line in Miami who can’t block all that well, constantly has miscommunications and won’t provide Fitzpatrick a lot of time to throw.

No — if the Dolphins are going to find success in Week 7 versus Buffalo, it is going to have to come defensively in forcing some errors from Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Without a few short fields and splash plays on defense, Miami can’t possibly hope to keep up with Buffalo, no matter who sits under center.
