Will 'Pokémon Winds and Waves' Feature Komodo Dragon? Fans Wonder About Its Appearance

Everyone is fired up for the newest "Pokémon Winds and Waves" information, but that might take months before we see the next trailer. As we wait for any good announcements from The Pokemon Company, fans are already sharing ideas for new creatures they hope to see in the rumored games.

One of the most popular requests is a Komodo dragon Pokémon, with many players arguing that the iconic reptile deserves its own species in the franchise.

The discussion even reached the "WiWa" subreddit, where fans are debating everything from its typing and design to its potential role in the game's roster. While many believe the creature is a perfect fit for the next generation, others point out that Game Freak may need to avoid similarities with existing Pokémon.

Is Kommo-o Actually Based on a Komodo Dragon?

One of the biggest points of discussion is whether Kommo-o already fills the role of a Komodo dragon-inspired Pokémon. At first glance, many fans assume it does because of its English name.

However, several community members argue that this is a common misconception. They note that Kommo-o's Japanese name contains no reference to Komodo dragons. Instead, its design appears to draw inspiration from armored reptiles, pangolins, and fantasy dragons rather than the Indonesian lizard itself.

Because of this, many players believe Game Freak still has the opportunity to introduce a true Komodo dragon Pokémon without overlapping with Kommo-o's design or inspiration.

Fans Suggest Unique Typings

If a Komodo dragon Pokémon does arrive, many fans already have ideas for its typing.

The most popular choice is Poison, reflecting the venom associated with real Komodo dragons. Some of the combinations frequently suggested include:

  • Poison/Dragon
  • Water/Poison
  • Poison/Electric
  • Pure Poison

Several players also believe the creature could become the final evolution of the rumored Water-type starter. A Water/Poison combination would offer a relatively uncommon typing while giving the starter a distinct identity.

Others envision the Pokémon as a pseudo-Legendary with a massive, kaiju-inspired design reminiscent of classic movie monsters.

Players Want a Fresh Design

Beyond its typing, fans are hoping Game Freak introduces a design that stands apart from previous Dragon-type Pokémon.

Some players say they have grown tired of the increasing number of flightless dragons in recent generations. Instead, they would like to see a Komodo dragon Pokémon with wings or another distinctive feature that gives it a unique silhouette.

Others point out that Pokémon designs rarely follow real-world biology exactly. Many evolutionary lines combine traits from multiple animals, giving Game Freak plenty of creative freedom when developing a new species.

'Pokémon Winds and Waves' Speculation Continues

Although "Pokémon Winds and Waves" won't come this year, fans know that Game Freak is cooking "something big" for the Generation 10 title.

A Komodo dragon Pokémon remains one of the community's most requested concepts. Whether it eventually appears as a regional Pokémon, a starter evolution, or a powerful pseudo-Legendary, players believe it has the potential to become one of the franchise's most memorable new additions.

Besides Komodo dragon theories, fans believe that "WiWa" will welcome new cats in the region, apart from the octopus-themed designs that fit the tropical region inspired by Southeast Asia.
