Will Perth stylists cut it in the kitchen on BBC Scotland's 'Flour Power'?

A group of hairdressers from Perth are set to put their baking skills to the test in a new television programme.

‘Flour Power’ is a new programme on BBC Scotland which sees amateur bakers from across Scotland compete against each other to be named the best.

When the show airs its Perth episode, stylists from John Gillespie on St John Street will be swapping their scissors for scales as they go head to head for the trophy.

The amateur bakers will be judged by Nichola Reith and guest judge Linda Hill from Murrays Bakers on Perth’s South Street.

A spokesperson for ‘Flour Power’ said: “In this episode ‘Flour Power’ is in Perth at city centre hairdressing salon, John Gillespie.

“Bigwig John, creative director Fiona, salon director Glen and colourist Rachael are swapping their scissors for mixing bowls as they go head to head for the ‘Flour Power’ trophy.

“Each of them is determined to win bragging rights over their colleagues and show they are a cut above the rest.

“Rookie Glen only started baking a few days ago and will have it all to do if his chocolate cake is to triumph.

“Experienced baker Fiona is one of the favourites and hopes her ciabatta will impress series judge Nichola and this week’s guest judge Linda Hill, whose pies are legendary in the local area.

“Meanwhile boss John, who fancies himself as a likely winner, is making a lemon and lime spiced drizzle cake, while Rachael is putting together her banana and toffee muffins.”

Each episode will focus on a different area of Scotland, with the episode in Perth being broadcast on Wednesday, June 12.

The programme’s spokesperson added: “‘Flour Power’ follows each competitor at home as they create their cakes, buns, bread or savoury pies and pasties.

“Then they’ll be revealed at a bake sale to the critical eye of their colleagues and, more importantly, to the ‘Flour Power’ judges.

“Each week series judge, Nichola will be joined by a local judge to taste, debate, berate and celebrate each of our competitors’ efforts.

“At the end of the bake sale, we’ll reveal who the judges have declared the workplace winner and worthy of the ‘Flour Power’ trophy.”
