Will NY Times knock down website pay wall?

Evidently, there's a debate going on at the New York Times about whether to keep its columnists hidden behind a pay wall which earns the company $10m (£5m) a year in subscriptions. According to commentator Philip Stone, there is a growing belief that the pay wall is preventing the paper from attracting a new generation of Times readers. He quotes Nicholas Ascheim, the company's director of entertainment, as telling a conference that the top priority now is cultivating readers rather than making money. (Via Follow The Media)
