Will Manchester United target Sean Longstaff be following Ayoze Perez out the door at Newcastle?

Newcastle United are in a strong position when it comes to Manchester United's interest in Sean Longstaff.

Unlike Perez, the Geordie midfielder is not understood to have a minimum fee release clause in his contract.

A fee of £25million had been touted at Old Trafford but Newcastle could justifiably demand more for the Academy product - and he is protected by a contract that runs out in 2022.

The Red Devils are also yet to make an official approach for Longstaff's services but Newcastle could be severely tested in the days ahead with the 21-year-old definitely on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's wish-list this summer.

As it stands Man United are trying to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester for £70million.

With Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka already on board the additions of Maguire and Longstaff would take their spending to close to £200million this summer.

Longstaff is on a modest contract at Newcastle after only breaking into the first team squad last summer.

But Man United have the power to dwarf his current wages if they make the offer they have been tipped to in the last six weeks.
