Will Liverpool and Everton have a winter break in the 2020/21 Premier League season?

The 2020/21 Premier League season will reportedly not have a winter break period following its introduction for the 2019/20 campaign.

The winter break was long campaigned for and it was finally introduced during the heavily disrupted 2019/20 season.

The other major European leagues, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1, all run a winter break period, in order to protect their players from the quick turnaround of some matches.

However, according to BBC Sport , the winter break period may have to be scrapped in order to fit in all of the games for the upcoming season.

Usually, the season starts in early-August, but due to the delay of the 19/20 campaign, the first game will not be played until September.

Last season, the Premier League split one round of matches on February 8, with the other five matches being played the next weekend.

This still gives each team a week off at one point and it also benefited the TV broadcasters, who didn’t want to have two weeks without football.

This may have happened again for the upcoming season, especially with Euro 2020 being postponed until the summer of 2021.

However, the coronavirus pandemic saw over three months without a ball being kicked, and has delayed the beginning of next season, with European competitions still being played in August.
