Will Levis Thought Colts Might Select Him Over Anthony Richardson in 2023 NFL Draft

Will Levis is preparing to face the AFC South rival Colts on Sunday for the first time since taking over as the Titans' starting quarterback.

Heading into the 2023 NFL Draft, however, Levis believed he could've been on the other sideline.

"I thought there was a shot I would be going [to Indianapolis]," Levis told reporters Wednesday. "Kind of right up until that draft day, both Anthony [Richardson] and I were like, 'Who's it going to be? We don't know.'

"I thought there was a good chance. Obviously, it didn't work out and luckily, I ended up here [in Tennessee]."

The Colts selected Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick and passed on Levis, who slid to Tennessee at No. 33, the first pick of the second round.

Colts owner Jim Irsay, however, oddly pondered still selecting Levis after drafting Richardson in a social media post on draft night.

Richardson entered the season as the Colts' starting quarterback but sustained a season-ending shoulder injury in October. Levis was veteran Ryan Tannehill's backup on the Titans but took over the starting role in Week 8 and is 2-3 as a starter.

Richardson logged seven total touchdowns (four rushing, three passing) while registering a 87.3 passer rating over four games before getting hurt. Levis has thrown for six touchdowns, two interceptions and notched an 88.2 passer rating in his first five career games.

Gardner Minshew will start his seventh straight game for the Colts when they visit the Titans on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.
