Will it fly? Edinburgh Airport reveal whether host of bizarre items are allowed on-board

Ever wondered whether you'd be allowed ice skates on-board your flight? What about a smoke alarm – or some dry ice?

Well, if the answer to that slightly unusual question is yes then a poll run by the Edinburgh Airport Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon might be right up your street.

The #WillItFly poll has had people guessing over which bizarre items you're allowed to fly with, and which are banned from aeroplanes.

First up was a tough one – the airport asked whether you are allowed a bag of 50 limes through security and on to your flight, so what do you think? Well, despite the amount of liquid they are capable of generating, turns out you are – as 70.7 per cent of voters correctly predicted.

The poll then revealed that ice skates are banned from passing through security, likely due to the blade, and most people (81 per cent) got this one right.

A total of 54.8 per cent of people wrongly felt that smoke alarms would be banned, when they are actually allowed, and 85.2 per cent correctly predicted that dry ice was banned.

Those at the airport then asked whether an iron would be allowed on-board and the answer, as most people correctly predicted, was yes.

The social media thread then revealed that tinned haggis was also allowed on your flight, despite 61.2 per cent of people thinking it was banned. Christmas crackers are also allowed.

Edinburgh Airport show no signs of slowing the #WillItFly poll down, so keep an eye on @EDI_Airport for more conundrums throughout the day.

However, at time of writing, they were yet to answer this puzzler, as posed by @LilyMWrites on Twitter.

"What's the EDI view on whether the inner bit of Creme Eggs counts as a liquid?"
