Will it be a white Christmas in Scotland this year?

Forget about the presents under the tree, or the dinner preparations, the most important question on everyone's lips is - will it be a white Christmas ?

Over the last few years the weather at Christmas has been cold and frosty but we've not actually seen any of the white stuff fall on December 25 for a few years.

However, it looks like this year could change all that.

Leading bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds on a white Christmas this year in Scotland with Aberdeen the odds on favourite.

Both Glasgow and Edinburgh have the shortest odd at 3-1 with Aberdeen at 2-1.

The Met Office long-range forecast suggests there may be snow on the way - but whether it will fall on the main day itself is still unpredictable.

From December 19 to January 2 there is heavy rain predicted, with any snow in Scotland expected on northern hills.

Down south Nottingham, Liverpool and Birmingham are predicted to be the best chances for snowfall on Christmas day.

Coral's Harry Aitkenhead said: "The cold weather is raising hopes of snow over the festive period and we have slashed our odds on the dream White Christmas becoming a reality. Birmingham, Nottingham and Liverpool look the most likely of the English cities to get snow on the 25th."
