Luka Doncic will miss at least the next six games, according to Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle.
Doncic, who sprained his right ankle during practice on Thursday, is slated to play two games during NBA All-Star weekend in Chicago Feb. 14-16.
Carlisle told KESN/103.3 FM Friday afternoon that the second-year guard won't play until at least a Feb. 10 home game against the Utah Jazz.
The Mavs play the Rockets in Houston on Friday night before returning home against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday as part of a run of six games in nine days.
The question for the Mavs is whether to give Doncic a few more days to rest the ankle, which is the same one he previously injured that forced him to miss four games in December.
It might be a smart move to go ahead and let Doncic rest for the next eight games until the All-Star break. The Mavs host the Sacramento Kings on Feb. 12 before the break. That would give Doncic more than two weeks to recuperate before the Rising Stars game on Friday, Feb. 14, and the All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 16.
Starting the All-Star Game is a huge honor, especially for the Mavs and Doncic, who is slated to be the youngest starter in 15 years.
And with the death of Kobe Bryant, the game is also expected to be a tribute to the NBA legend.
