Hurricane Ida continues to cause major damage after touching down in the US state of Louisiana on Sunday night, and its effects are to be seen across more of the Gulf Coast states as the weeks goes on.
Although Ireland has, in the past, been subject to the tail end of many hurricanes, it looks likely that Ida will pass without its effects being felt on the Emerald Isle.
The Category 4 storm has so far brought with it winds clocking in at 150mph and has buried much of the affected shoreline in several metres of water.
It’s understood that the path the hurricane is on means it would be extremely unlikely for Ireland to experience a change in conditions as a result.
The only probable outcome will be a minor shift in conditions from the energy of the storm coming in off the Atlantic - which wouldn’t be seen until the end of the week, if at all.

A spokesperson for the Irish forecaster told the Irish Mirror; "As of today, Ida has been downgraded to a tropical storm.
"There has been no change to its forecast path and according to weather models it is set to dissipate somewhere between Greenland and Iceland in the early days of next week."
At the moment, the forecast remains fairly settled up until Sunday with some areas in for sunshine and warmth, while others will see the odd shower as the days goes on.
Today, the south of the country will experience the best of the weather, with temperatures of up to 21C.
In the north and east, it’ll be between 19C and 20C as better conditions are expected to develop later on this afternoon.
On Tuesday, the best of the sun will be across Connacht and Ulster, however elsewhere there will be some scattered showers and temperatures will range from 16C to 20C nationwide.
Wednesday will be another dry day overall with some cloud building throughout the day and highest temperatures of 17C to 21C

It’ll be warmest in Ulster, with light to moderate northeasterly winds.
On Thursday, conditions remain fairly well the same - dry with the odd drizzle in some areas, and temperatures of 16C - 20C.
Heading into the weekend, the predictions at the moment show no indication of any after-effects from Hurricane Ida, with fairly standard conditions across the country for the time of year.
The Irish forecaster indicates that “Saturday will likely bring further showers, more numerous than Friday's, but there will be dry spells also.
“Temperatures will be similar to Friday with winds remaining light to moderate.
“There are signs that the weather will become less settled later in the weekend, with a longer spell of rain likely during Sunday.”
