Will Grigg coy on Sunderland future with striker linked with move to former club

Will Grigg's future on Wearside needs to be addressed this summer.

The Northern Ireland international spent the second half of the 2019-20 season on loan at MK Dons, scoring eight times in 20 appearances.

Sunderland head coach Lee Johnson said he wanted Grigg to stay at the club but the striker opted for a fresh start in an attempt to get his career back on track.

The 29-year-old is set to return to the Stadium of Light this summer and it's unclear whether he'll be in Johnson's long term plans.

German publication Spox asked the striker if he could imagine a move to the Europe this summer, and the Sunderland striker said: "I don't know yet how things will continue in summer.

"But of course, if there is an opportunity to move to Germany, I would definitely be interested.”

MK Dons are among the favourites to re-sign Grigg in the summer, but last year's strugglers Wigan are also reported to be interested in the Sunderland striker.

Grigg's best spell of his career came at the Latics and he revealed he didn't intend to leave the club.

He said: "That was the hardest decision of my life.

"I didn't intend to move, but when Wigan accepted Sunderland's offer, I agreed.

"Wigan will forever be my heart club. Maybe I'll come back someday.”
