Will Fuller shares the advice he got from Randy Moss to win deep balls

The Miami Dolphins offense is set to receive a major, major boost in their bid to create explosive plays. Miami played Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season and saw just two of their wide receivers, Jaylen Waddle and DeVante Parker, catch a football. But the Dolphins are ready to welcome Will Fuller into the mix in Week 2 — Fuller is set to return from a 6-game suspension he received last season.

The exciting thing about Fuller’s addition is that he’s one of the best deep threats in all of football — and if the Dolphins are going to be the kind of legitimate contender that they hope to be, Fuller is going to play a big part in quickly positioning the team to score.

But what is his secret to success tracking the deep ball? Fuller isn’t just a track speed athlete, he’s got a strong track record of adjustments to the football in flight. As it turns out, there’s a reason; a tip from Randy Moss has helped Fuller continue to shine as a deep threat.

“Actually my second year, Randy Moss told me this – he came to training camp. He said when he ran his deep balls, a lot of receivers when they run their posts or go’s, they turn back and look at the quarterback. The quarterback, he’s probably already thrown the ball,” explained Fuller during Wednesday’s press availability.

“He told me look up when you turn around, don’t look at the quarterback because the quarterback doesn’t have the ball anyway. That’s helped me a lot, getting the ball in the air quick, not turning around and looking at the quarterback but looking up for the ball. That’s helped me a lot and just running out of your break. Run three or four steps out of you break and then look up and try to find it.”

Simple advice, sure. But it is certainly working. And if Fuller manages to hit big on a couple of targets on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, Miami may find themselves poised to collect win No. 2 on the year.
