Will First Bus provide hand sanitisers to passengers in Bristol?

First Bus will not be providing hand sanitiser to customers who travel on Bristol's buses.

While its staff will be provided with PPE, passengers will not be given hand sanitiser by the bus company.

A First Bus customer asked on Twitter whether the company would be providing hand sanitiser to bus riders.

According to the government publication on safer transport guidance for operation, hand sanitiser only need to be provided to staff members on public transport and not to customers.

It states: "Retaining sufficient quantities of hand sanitiser/wipes within vehicles to enable workers to clean hands after each delivery/drop-off."

First Bus responded by tweeting: "We will not be providing hand sanitiser on board for customers as we have followed guidance from our industry that customers should bring their own hand sanitiser and the public health advice for everyone to wash their hands regularly."

It was also revealed windows will be kept open on all services to help with ventilation during the pandemic.

First Bus tweeted: "All of our services should be operating with the windows open - unless they are being closed during service without the drivers knowledge - if you do see services without windows open please report it."

First Bus have announced a series of measures recently and changes that have come into place as the lockdown across England begins to ease.

This includes rolling out a live capacity tracking app and signs on board to direct customers to sit in seating 2 metres apart from one another.

From Monday, June 15, people are required to wear face masks on all public transport networks which includes First Bus.
