Will Ferrell tells of jealousy over Matt Damon spending lockdown in Ireland

Will Ferrell has revealed that he would have loved to have spent his lockdown in Ireland like Matt Damon.

But bypassing Dublin’s Dalkey, the Step Brothers star said he would have had his sights set on a stay in Cork instead.

He said: “Probably at the Jameson Distillery down in Cork. In Midleton yeah. I’d just have a little room up there in the office,’

Speaking to Alison Curtis on Today FM, Ferrell went on to spill some details from his latest film Eurovision Song Contest: A Story of Fire Saga.

Asked whether he had a difficult time explaining the Eurovision Song Contest to producers, the star revealed it was surprisingly easy to explain the spectacle.

“We were just lucky enough to walk into Netflix and sort of explain what it was.

“And they, to their credit, kind of got the whole spectacle of it, and we didn’t go anywhere else in Hollywood.’

He went on to share that despite the film being a comedy, there is a warm and fuzzy storyline shared between Ferrell’s and Rachel McAdam’s characters.

‘There’s a lot of humour to be had when you watch the show, there’s a lot of kitsch at times.

“But we just thought, at the centre of it, it needs to have, kind of an emotional base.

‘We just thought if we can get people to follow these two characters on this journey in pursuit of their dreams against all odds, we can kind of achieve both that would be great.’

Meanwhile, crediting Ireland’s history of wins in the past he added: “I was gonna say, you guys have won six or seven times, right.”

Graham Norton, Demi Lovato and Pierce Brosnan also star in the flick set to release this weekend.

The screenplay was written by Ferrell and Andrew Steele; Adam McKay is the executive producer.

The official synopsis reads: “When aspiring Icelandic musicians Lars (Ferrell) and Sigrit (McAdams) are given the opportunity of a lifetime to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition, they finally have a chance to prove that any dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for.”

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga is available to stream on Netflix for the UK and Ireland from Friday 26 June.
