Will Ferrell returning as Ron Burgundy for new podcast series

Will Ferrell is resurrecting his beloved Anchorman creation Ron Burgundy.

The actor will return as the character for a brand new podcast, produced by video website Funny or Die, that will launch on the iHeartRado Network in early 2019.

It’ll be titled The Ron Burgundy Podcast and will run for two seasons of 12 episodes.

The news was announced via the @BurgundyPodcast Twitter handle, with iHeartPodcast Network president Conal Byrne quipping: “To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible. Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios.

“We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away.”

Upon its release in 2004, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy – co-starring Christina Applegate, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd – became a cult favourite, earning a sequel which arrived in 2013.

Later this month, Ferrell will reunite with Step Brothers co-star John C Reilly for Holmes and Watson, a comedic take on the Arthur Conan Doyle detectives. In 2019, he'll return as executive producer on the second season of Succession, the breakout HBO drama starring Jeremy Strong, Brian Cox and Sarah Snook.
