March 12--MESA, Ariz. -- Kris Bryant paused for a few seconds Thursday morning after being asked if he was more excited or curious to see comedian-actor Will Ferrell playing for the Chicago Cubs.
"Both," Bryant said of Ferrell, who is scheduled to play for the Cubs against the Los Angeles Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium. That will be the second of five stops for Ferrell as he attempts to play all nine positions as part of his efforts to raise cancer awareness.
"I heard he's playing first," Bryant said. "I'll have to make my throws very accurate if I'm still playing. It will be fun. Never in a million years would I have thought I would be playing baseball with Will Ferrell on the field. It's going to be fun for all of us.''
Ferrell is scheduled to commute from HoHoKam Park in Mesa to Tempe via helicopter, and then travel to Scottsdale, followed by a stop in Glendale to play for the White Sox before concluding his odyssey in Peoria.
Cubs infielder Mike Olt is curious to see how Ferrell fares at each of the nine positions.
"I'm surprised that he's going to be able to catch," Olt said. "It's going to be very interesting. I can't (imagine). Even as a player, it would be tough to do.
"I played shortstop and pitcher (as a kid), and that's it. I don't think I ever played another position. Switching positions is tough, especially when you've never played baseball. I'm sure he'll have fun with it. He'll know how to take care of the situation if something goes wrong."
