The state education department on Friday released the schedule for admission for economically weaker section (EWS) category for classes 1 to 12 in private schools. As per the circular issued by the department, admission to students in Class 1 will be given under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 whereas admission to students in classes 2 to 12 will be given under section 134-A of the Haryana School Education Rules(HSER), 2003.
Under RTE Act, 25 % of all the seats in class 1 are to be reserved for EWS candidates in private schools. As per rule 134-A of HSER, 2003, all private schools are required to reserve 10% seats from classes 2 to 8 under the EWS category.
Applications for admission will be submitted to the district elementary education officer from March 18 to 20 for Class 1. Applications for admissions will be forwarded to schools from March 20 till March 25. Schools need to display the list of vacancies on their notice boards and websites by March 25. For students in classes 2 to 8, an assessment test will be conducted on April 7. The result of the test will be declared on April 11.
Last year, a number of candidates who had secured admission under EWS category were initially denied admission by various schools. Only after the department’s intervention, the children were given admission.
In order to avoid a repeat of last year, the education department said that it will be closely monitoring the admission process. “We will assure that every child who secures admission under EWS category is granted admission,” said Premlata Yadav, district elementary education officer. The circular also mentions that schools failing to give admission may lose their recognition certificate.
