Will Coronation Street, Eastenders and Emmerdale air tonight? All soaps cancelled by ITV and BBC

Television schedules have been changed for this evening following the news that the Duke of Edinburgh has died.

Prince Philip peacefully passed away this morning, Friday April 9, at Windsor Castle aged 99.

He was due to celebrate his 100th birthday in June.

All major networks, such as ITV and BBC, have switched to live coverage following the breaking of the news shortly before 12pm this afternoon.

This Morning was cut short with Eamonn Holmes announcing the end of the show and handing the programme over to the ITV News team.

The BBC similarly switched to its BBC News Special which it does with any major event.

As a result, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air on ITV tonight, nor will EastEnders on BBC One.

The MasterChef final will also be rescheduled for a later date.

Channel 4 is set to air Gogglebox and The Circle Final as planned.

ITV has cancelled both Emmerdale and Coronation Street (ITV)

The BBC said: "With the sad news that HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, has died, there is now special coverage across all BBC networks to mark his life of extraordinary public service and planned scheduling has been suspended."

TV News will broadcast continuous coverage throughout the afternoon, celebrating Prince Philip’s life.

At 5pm a specially commissioned film, Prince Philip: Duke of Edinburgh will air followed by the news and then a live programme called Prince Philip, Fondly Remembered.

Special programmes will air in tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh (PA)

Then at 9pm, ITV will air a documentary special, Prince Philip: A Royal Life, followed by an extended news at 10.

Channel 4 has said: "In light of the sad news of the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh we can confirm the following changes have been made to tonight’s Channel 4 schedule."

At 4pm, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh - Royal Obituary will air followed by a Channel 4 News special at 7pm.
