Will Colts get a chance to pursue S Landon Collins?

The Indianapolis Colts will be in the market this offseason to add some help at the safety position, and one of the top options includes New York Giants safety Landon Collins.

Though he is still a prime candidate for the franchise tag, there seems to be some reported frustration between Collins and the Giants as the former has made it clear he does not want to play under the tag in 2019.

With the growing likelihood of getting tagged before the March 5 deadline, Collins reportedly is becoming more frustrated with the situation, per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

Landon Collins is “frustrated” the Giants seem to have no intention of giving him the lucrative, long-term contract he’s seeking, according to an NFL source, and he remains unhappy that he is likely to get the franchise tag instead.

There was a point of debate between media members on Wednesday as an ESPN report stated Collins cleaned out his locker and said goodbyes to his teammates. Local beat writers and former players disputed the report.

Collins wants a long term deal after being a Pro Bowler in three of his first four seasons, and it remains to be seen if that will happen, but the Colts could get the chance at pursuing the Alabama product if the Giants let him walk.

There is no denying Collins would be a fantastic addition to the Colts defense. His versatility, skillset and production would match greatly opposite Malik Hooker as the Colts could continue using their two-high safety packages but with the confidence of allowing Collins to play in the box.

With an abundance of salary cap space, the Colts could give Collins the contract he’s looking for while the 25-year-old provides production and stability to a thin safety room.

It remains to be seen if the Colts will actually get the chance to pursue Collins, but with his frustration about the franchise tag, the chances grow every day.
