Will Chiefs RB Melvin Gordon be elevated from practice squad for Week 14?

What are the chances that Kansas City Chiefs practice squad RB Melvin Gordon is elevated for Sunday’s game against his former team? Don’t get your hopes up, Denver Broncos fans. Gordon, who was released by Denver after a rash of fumbles this season, remains on Kansas City’s practice squad.

It’s unlikely that he’s signed to the 53-man roster as the team no longer has any open spots. Asked about Gordon’s status for Week 14, Reid didn’t rule out the possibility of a standard elevation from the practice squad, but he did posit the health of the position group as playing a factor in the decision.

“Yeah, there’s that chance,” Reid said. “We’re fairly healthy there, but I’m glad we have him here. You know he does a nice job for us.”

While the Chiefs have two running backs on the injury report this week, both players have been full participants in practice. With injuries at other positions such as linebacker and receiver, it’s possible that Gordon remains on the practice squad this week.

Should something change between now and Sunday, the team has a great deal of confidence in Gordon. Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy spoke to the media about what he’s learned about the veteran running back after spending some time with him in the meeting rooms and at practice.

“Just watching him, he’s the ultimate professional,” Bieniemy said. “It’s the reason why he’s had the success that he’s had. Obviously, he’s had a tough year this year and sometimes that happens. Sometimes without any bad luck, you wouldn’t have any good luck at all. He’s happy to be here and I’m glad that he’s here. He’s had an opportunity to watch our guys work. He has a great deal of respect for what we’re doing and how we’re doing it. And he’s just making the most of every opportunity. He’s not complaining about anything, he just wants to know what he can do. The thing we talked about on day one, is just making sure that he’s busting his tail when he’s out there and he’s doing a great job of it. He’s a professional.”
