• Re “Labour defeat hands boost to hard-Brexit candidates” (13 June), remember that Gina Miller was good enough to get the supreme court to admit that it requires an act of parliament to agree the way to leave the EU, which in turn requires a vote in the House. Deny the House a vote and you can’t do anything.

• In your obituary of Lord Spicer (12 June), it’s made clear that the high point of his career was managing the rise to Conservative leadership of Iain Duncan Smith, Michael Howard and David Cameron. Strewth!

• I cannot agree with the precedents that Richard Williams identified for Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue (All aboard the Bob express, G2, 12 June). The Rolling Stones’ Rock and Roll Circus was a TV show; it never travelled, and the Merry Pranksters had very few musicians among them.

• Once when watching a Test match at Headingley I noticed two officials standing and obstructing the view of several spectators. “Eyup,” shouted one, “We paid good brass for these seats.” Leaving the officials in no doubt as to what they should do (I’m proud to speak Yorkshire, 10 June).
