Will behead myself if I have erred, says Karnataka high court judge

BENGALURU: Pained by advocates' allegations against the judiciary, a senior judge of the Karnataka HC, who was attending a send-off to Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi on Friday, offered to behead himself if he had erred in his duty.

"If I've made a mistake, I'm prepared to stand between Vidhana Soudha and the high court and behead myself. That is the spirit with which I work as a judge," Justice B Veerappa said, expressing pain and anguish over certain wild allegations made by some advocates against judges. At the farewell organized by Advocates' Association of Bangalore, he urged the president of Bengaluru bar association to take action against such advocates. tnn

'Judges have to use Sudarshana Chakra after limits'

The judge referred to an incident in his court hall on Thursday where an advocate misbehaved with the bench.

He said the judges sit in glass houses and it is for the advocates' association to come to their rescue when certain unscrupulous members of the bar make wild and baseless allegations against the judiciary. "Judges have no option, but to use Sudarshana Chakra after certain limits," Justice Veerappa said.

AAB president Vivek Subba Reddy said they would soon discuss the issue.
