'Will be huge' - Newcastle fans' cautious optimism over Almiron, and big fear which won't happen

Newcastle United fans have reacted with cautious optimism to the news Miguel Almiron could return to the first-team picture this weekend.

The Magpies head to Brighton on Saturday night in what is a must-win game at the Amex Stadium between two sides battling to stay out of the Premier League relegation zone.

The Seagulls recorded an important 2-1 win at Southampton last Sunday, while Newcastle picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

However, United could be in the bottom three before they take on Brighton if Fulham beat Leeds this Friday.

Steve Bruce's side have struggled for goals in the absence of Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron, but as Lee Ryder reported earlier this week, the Paraguayan is at least in with a chance of returning this weekend.

"It's going to be a little too early for Callum, we can already dismiss that," said Bruce after the draw with Villa. "Miggy is a different option. He is going along very, very nicely so we'll keep our fingers crossed."

Almiron's return would be a huge boost for the Magpies, and fans have reacted optimistically, if cautiously, hoping he has not come back too soon.

Newcastle fans' verdict on Almiron's potential return

One fear shared on social media is that any return to first-team action for Almiron will mean he has to link up with Paraguay during the international break - travelling long distances and potentially having to self-isolate on his return.

However, the South American World Cup qualifiers scheduled for the coming weeks have been postponed due to Covid-19, so Almiron should not have to travel regardless of his fixtures.
