'Will be easy' - Robert Pires names club Mohamed Salah would join if he left Liverpool

Former Arsenal winger Robert Pires has had his say on Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool.

Talks have been ongoing since the summer over a new deal for the Egyptian forward, whose current contract is due to expire in 2023.

The negotiations with Liverpool haven’t proved to be a distraction on the pitch though, with Salah scoring 23 goals in 26 games so far this season.

Arsenal legend Pires has weighed in on the subject and gave his thoughts over a possible move to La Liga for the 29-year-old.

“The current world’s best in my eyes is PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, but two Premier League stars come right after, Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah,” Pires reportedly told Egyptian TV .

“Mohamed Salah’s future depends on what he wants, whether he continues with Liverpool or goes for new experience, it’s up to him.

“Between Barcelona and Real Madrid, and considering the player’s qualities, I think Salah would perform better with Barca, his communication with Xavi will be easy.”

The ex-Gunner gave his thoughts on the Liverpool man ahead of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, which is set to get underway against Nigeria on Tuesday.

Salah will be looking to lead his country to victory in the tournament, having finished runners-up to Cameroon in 2017.

Egypt manager and ex-Manchester United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz has suggested that the form of his talismanic forward is currently unrivalled among his peers.

“Probably you agree with me that in our team we have the best player on the planet at the moment," Queiroz said in his latest press conference.

Before light-heartedly adding: "If my friend Cristiano Ronaldo listens to this, he will be upset!"

Naby Keita and Sadio Mane are also representing Guinea and Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations respectively, with the Liverpool trio expected to next be available for the Reds against Leicester on February 10.
