Will Bancroft series 3 happen? ITV speak out after success of second series

Sometimes a second series of a drama just doesn't match up to its predecessor but that is most definitely not the case with Bancroft.

After shocking and enthralling viewers in equal measure at the end of 2017, the ITV drama returned for series 2 on New Year's Day, commanding the attention of millions of people from the get-go.

Created by writer Kate Brooke, psychological thriller Bancroft tells a ferocious female-driven tale focusing on the ultimate anti-heroine. The second series saw Detective Chief Superintendent Elizabeth Bancroft (Sarah Parish) riding a professional high as a head of a new merged super force. But her reputation as a ‘good cop’ has come at a huge personal cost, and she is alone, estranged from her beloved son Joe.

When a disturbing double murder brought her personal and professional life crashing together, she was confronted with a chilling new enemy - Joe's new girlfriend Annabelle - and the repercussions of her past actions returned to haunt her in ways she never expected.

Bancroft series 2 got people talking from off, with and episode 2 bringing Bancroft's sinister streak to the fore once again with chilling consquences.

And before the third and final episode even aired, fans were desperate for more.

Will there be a third series of Bancroft?

Speaking to Chronicle Live on Friday, a spokesperson from ITV said "There's no news presently as we don't make the decision about a recommission until a drama has fully aired. We'll know more in the coming weeks."
