Black Friday has evolved to become one of the biggest shopping dates in the calendar for shoppers on both sides of the Atlantic.
But for the last few years major UK retailer Asda has shunned the huge discount event .
In 2015 the Wal-Mart owned retail giant announced it would no longer operate official Black Friday deals. For many shoppers this came as a massive shock and upset as Asda were one of the early adopters of the huge shopping event.
Early Black Friday sales in the UK previously saw shopping chaos in stores across the country, with crowds of Asda customers fighting over cut price TVs and discounted tech gadgets.

Commenting last year Russell Craig, media relations director for Asda said “In 2015 we said that we were stepping away from Black Friday because, as much as we had developed a well organised and executed event the feedback from our customers was clear that they didn't want the pressure of a ‘flash sale’ and preferred to know we were offering low prices throughout the festive season."
Will deals still be available from Asda?
Over the last couple of years Asda has chosen to release discounted offers over a longer period in the run up to the festive season rather than a one-day flash sale on Black Friday itself.
Last year the retailer launched its 'Green Is The New Black' deals in early November as an alternative for its shoppers.
The sale, which was available to shop in stores and online at asda.com , featured price cuts on LOL! Surprise and Disney toys.
This year there are already a number of discounts that are live across Asda at George collections. The retailer is currently running a huge mid-season sale, with half price savings on everything from fashion to homewares and toys online.
The timing is ideal for those looking to make a head-start on their Christmas shopping.
Commenting on the seasonal discounting, Tom Church, co-founder of money-saving website LatestDeals.co.uk , says: “I’ve been looking forward to the ASDA George sale which always offers fantastic value for money on a range of items. It's best to shop online to take advantage of free click and collect, as there's more on offer and you don't have to wrestle with others for the best bargains."
"Also remember to take advantage of the ASDA Christmas Savings card . When you top-up, ASDA will give you an extra 5% towards your Christmas shopping. It's a really handy way to save that little bit more."
