Will Arriva, Merseyrail and Stagecoach services run on Queen's funeral bank holiday?

The nation has been in mourning since Queen Elizabeth II died aged 96.

Her Majesty passed away at Balmoral on September 8. The former monarch's funeral will take place tomorrow from 11am at Westminster Abbey.

King Charles III has approved tomorrow as a new bank holiday as many places across the country will close as a mark of respect. However, there is no legal requirement for employers to give staff the day off.

This means it will be up to the discretion of each individual establishment on whether it will stay open. Many will be wondering if they will be able to use public transport on the bank holiday.

We have rounded up statements from some of Merseyside's major travel operators on if they will be running their services tomorrow.

Merseyrail

Merseyrail issued a statement on Twitter earlier this week to confirm its usual timetable will be in force on Monday, September 19. It said: "We have seen various questions around the timetable on Monday 19th September.

"We want to confirm that we will be running our normal schedule to allow people to travel to pay their respects during this period of mourning. Visit our websites journey planner for travel information."

Arriva

Arriva is one of Merseyside's two big bus operators, which welcomes thousands of passengers onto its services each day. A statement from the company has revealed it will be operating a Sunday service tomorrow.

A statement said: "If you are planning to travel outside of London, our usual timetables will operate, except for on the 19th September when we will operate a Sunday Service."

Stagecoach

Stagecoach also confirmed it will run a reduced service tomorrow. It announced: "All Stagecoach services in Merseyside, Cheshire & South Lancashire will run a Sunday service."

The bus operator also explained drivers may pull over as the nation observes a two minutes silence tomorrow at approximately 11.55am. It added: "Our drivers may pull over, where safe to do so, to pay their respects. We invite our customers to join us in participating in the national silences at these times."
