Will 2019 be a breakthrough year for the Tennessee Titans?

The Tennessee Titans have been on the verge of a 10-win regular season for the past three years now, finishing each with an overall record of 9-7.

The team came painfully close to a playoff berth in 2018, placing themselves in a win-and-in playoff scenario by recording four consecutive victories in December.

Plagued by injuries, the team was simply too weak without its starters to get the job done against the division rival Indianapolis Colts. The team and its playoff hopes fell, 33-17 in Nissan Stadium.

Even so, 2018 was still an important year for victories, and the team recorded some impressive ones over the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, along with Houston, Philadelphia and Dallas.

Could 2019 be the year the Titans finally break through to the next level?

Whether or not the Titans can become serious postseason contenders in the upcoming season ultimately comes down to making the right moves during the offseason and Marcus Mariota proving himself worthy of a contract extension after it kicks off.

According to head coach Mike Vrabel, it all comes down to getting “out of the middle.”

“We’ve got to get out of the middle,” Vrabel told the media. “Being (9-7) for three years, it’s great to have a winning record. But we are all charged to win championships and that’s really what we have to do. And (you) just try to prepare for each week and just go out there and do that. That’s what we’re trying to do this offseason, and plan for, and have the coaching and players, and player acquisition to get the roster right to win football games for our fans in Nashville and across Tennessee.”

The Titans will have a chance to start making some serious changes as the mid-March free agency period and 2019 NFL Draft quickly approach.
