Wilfried Zaha ready to quit Crystal Palace to fulfil Champions League ambition

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has given the clearest indication yet that he wants to leave Selhurst Park this summer, insisting he is “too ambitious” not to play for a bigger club.

Zaha was the subject of intense transfer speculation last summer, but eventually signed a new five-year deal at the club worth a reported £130,000-a-week.

The Ivory Coast international has eight goals and eight assists in 30 league games this season, helping Palace to all-but ensure Premier League survival with four games to play.

However, the 26-year-old now has his sights on a second crack at life at a top club, and the Champions League, after a failed move to Manchester United in 2013, where he made just four appearances in all competitions.

“I’m too ambitious,” Zaha told the Daily Mail. “And not just ambitious to play for a top club, but to win things at club level and with the Ivory Coast.

“For me to be better to achieve what I know I am capable of, I have to aim to play at the very highest level, to win trophies. I’m blessed to have come this far in my playing career but I feel like there I so much more to offer.

“I have to experience the Champions League. I just need the opportunity, that’s it. I’ll do the rest.”
