With reports that Arsenal have agreed a structured €80million (£72m) deal to sign Nicolas Pepe from Lille, we thought we’d have a bit of hypothetical transfer fun…
Pepe or Wilfried Zaha? That’s the question we are asking you!
It's clear that Emery is keen to add a pacy winger to his squad this summer by targeting Zaha and Pepe, who played together for the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations in July. While Zaha is renowned for his blistering pace and unique dribbling style, Pepe is the more potent force in front of goal, scoring 22 goals in Ligue 1 last season.
But with Arsenal understood to be operating on a limited transfer budget it could surely only ever be one player or the other… and Pepe’s potential arrival would almost certainly end any chance of Zaha rocking up at the Emirates this summer.
Arsenal have already had an offer turned down for Zaha. Due to a sell on fee that would be owed to Manchester United, Palace are thought to be holding out for £80m – an amount similar to what Arsenal are rumoured to be paying for Pepe.
In reality, neither would arrive if the fee had to be paid in one full payment. It’s the possibility of a structured deal that opens the door for the Pepe.
But, if that wasn’t an issue, which player would you choose?
