Wilfried Zaha has issued a defiant message to his critics and insisted: "I’ll always be me".
Zaha was on target for Crystal Palace in their 3-2 defeat by West Ham on Tuesday night, opening the scoring with a thunderous strike at Selhurst Park.
But the former Manchester United winger endured a largely frustrating evening under the lights in south London and, ultimately, Roy Hodgson's men suffered another defeat.
Zaha often attracts criticism from rival fans and it seems the West Ham loss was no different, leaving the 28-year-old to hit back with a firm response.
He wrote on social media: "It’s a sad world we live in because people thrive off another person's misfortune.
"Ask yourself why you follow me honestly?
"Do you genuinely want to see me succeed or are you part of the bandwagon that’s surprised I’m still relevant till now who hope I lose and only pop up with likes and comments when it’s to say something negative!
"I’ll always be me though."
Last month, Zaha was forced to deny "playing angry" for Crystal Palace.
The Ivory Coast international grabbed a goal in the 1-1 draw with Leicester and then faced questions over his attitude on the pitch.
He explained: “It’s just passion that I play with. People may see it as anger or whatever – but I just have passion. I love what I do.
"I can’t stand around and watch other teams because when we play we have someone up our backsides the whole time. So why can’t we do the same? That’s how I play every game.”
Zaha faces an uncertain future at Palace, with the winger hopeful of securing a move to a Champions League club.
He saw a switch to Arsenal fall through in the summer of 2019, with the Gunners opting to sign Nicolas Pepe instead.
