Wilfried Zaha hints at Crystal Palace exit as he tells Rio Ferdinand about Arsenal interest

Wilfried Zaha has admitted he could leave Crystal Palace, and appears to favour a move to Arsenal above all else.

The Ivory Coast winger has been heavily linked with a move away from Selhurst Park for over a year now, with the Gunners and Chelsea among the sides understood to be have been interested.

Zaha, a lifelong Arsenal fan, confessed it was “amazing” to have his boyhood club chasing his signature last year.

And, despite being a favourite at Palace, fans won’t be too encouraged by his latest comments on Rio Ferdinand’s Locker Room show on YouTube.

"I'm 27, trophies is what it's all about,” said Zaha. “If the opportunity to win trophies then 100 per cent. That's 100 per cent what I want in my career and what I'm working towards.”

On being linked with Arsenal, Zaha added: "It was nice. Supporting them and having them wanting you at the same time, leaves you thinking: 'this is amazing.'

"But things never worked out so you just have to move on as quick as possible. I was thinking this may happen. But my whole family was watching and it just didn't work out.”

Zaha also spoke about his decision to represent the Ivory Coast over England – having played for England under-21s, the winger revealed a phone call from Chelsea legend Didier Drogba convinced him to switch allegiances.

"I feel like I wasn't given a really fair shot at the first team. I went through the age groups but then didn't really get a chance,” said Zaha.

"Then I spoke to Drogba and he explained to me what it felt like to play for the Ivory Coast.

"For one thing, it's Drogba calling you and he's explaining all these things to me. When they came to me I turned them down the first time because I wanted to play for England at the time.

"But they were still on my case even though I've turned them down before. At the same time, despite my performances, I still wasn't getting picked for England.

"So it was a straight decision after. Then Ivory Coast asked me again and it was a straight decision and I'm glad that I did it.

"The love the country has shown me. When we reached the AFCON quarter finals, it was insane and it was as if we had won it. When you play over there, you are treated like a king.”
