Wilfried Zaha handed transfer lifeline after missing out on Arsenal and Everton moves

Chelsea could make a move for Wilfried Zaha after he failed to secure a transfer away from Crystal Palace .

Zaha is said to be furious after Palace blocked a deadline day switch to Everton , who emerged as the only possible suitors for the Ivory Coast winger.

Tottenham and Arsenal were linked with a move earlier this summer with the Gunners having a £40m bid rejected by Palace.

Zaha will now start the season at Selhurst Park but could be offered an escape route in January.

The Sun reports Chelsea believe their transfer ban will be reduced, and they will be able to sign new players in January.

The Blues were unable to make any new signings this summer and as things stand, can't make an addition until next summer.

But they have confidence they can make additions in January, and may turn their focus to Zaha.

The former Manchester United winger would rather stay in London and after Arsenal signed Nicolas Pepe, a move to Stamford Bridge appears the most likely.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson admitted Zaha had sought a move away from Selhurst Park, with his relationship with chairman Steve Parish at breaking point.

“He’s staying and we’re pleased about that. I sent him home, it being the last day of the transfer window, because it’s well documented he wanted to leave," Hodgson said.

“His beef is with the chairman and the owners, because they didn’t receive an acceptable offer.

“But when you sign long-term contracts, you have to accept this kind of thing and come to terms with that. I certainly don’t have a problem with him.”
