Wilfried Zaha has been suspended for a further match by The FA after sarcastically clapping referee Andre Marriner during Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.
The Ivorian winger was shown two yellow cards and a subsequent red card in the game, meaning he missed the 2-0 win vs Fulham last weekend through suspension.
But the player, who has also been fined £10,000 for improper conduct, is now set to miss a further game pending an appeal, with The FA releasing a statement on the incident.
It read: “Wilfried Zaha has been suspended for one match following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing yesterday [06 February 2019]. He was also fined £10,000.
"The suspension is not currently effective whilst the player considers his right of appeal.
"The Crystal Palace forward accepted a charge of improper conduct, which followed his behaviour after a second-half dismissal during the game against Southampton on 30 January 2019."
Because the ban is not currently active whilst Zaha considers an appeal, Roy Hodgson could pick him for the West Ham game this weekend, meaning the ban would be pushed back to the FA Cup clash vs Doncaster - a game of far less significance for the Eagles.
Of his player's dismissal, manager Hodgson said at the time: "It's disappointing that a player who perhaps provided the most entertainment throughout the game was consistently fouled," said Hodgson, who refused to criticise Marriner.
"That he wasn't able to contain his frustration with that consistent fouling and complains about a foul that wasn't given and probably should have been.
"I don't think he's targeted as a person I just think players who run with the ball as well as he does just get fouled. His play was good enough to provoke those fouls.
"It's not a good evening knowing he's going to miss the next game. We need him playing.
"We were fairly well in control. The first half performance was very good. Second half we should really have taken one or two of the chances that came our way."
