Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend have taken to social media to categorically deny stories that Crystal Palace players held a highly charged meeting prior to the Premier League opener against Everton.
Zaha was in the middle of speculation surrounding his future for the majority of the transfer window, with both Arsenal and Everton seeing bids rejected for the Ivory Coast international.
It was widely reported that Zaha was looking to move on during the summer, with the Palace talisman missing training on deadline day because he wasn't in the right frame of mind.
However, Palace were determined to keep a hold of their man, with the club demanding a big fee should they have decided to cash in.
Zaha returned to training on Friday, the day before Palaces' opening game against Everton and reports claimed that players held a meeting, led by defender Mamadou Sakho in order to demand that the winger showed 100% commitment to the cause following the disappointment of not sealing a move.
But, both Andros Townsend and Zaha have used their twitter accounts to claim that such a meeting ever took place.
"The whole back page for something that categorically didn’t happen #FakeNews" Townsend wrote.
While Zaha's response was: "Making up lies is clearly more interesting than the actual truth."
Zaha was a second half substitute during the goalless draw against Everton, and could be back in the starting 11 when Palace face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday.
