Wilfried Bony’s transfer to Manchester City is close to being finalised and is expected to go through in a few days, according to the player’s agent. Swansea City are resigned to the fact their leading scorer will leave, and it is understood personal terms have been agreed, but discussions in relation to the player’s valuation are continuing. It is anticipated City will end up paying about £25m for Bony.
The 26-year-old striker spoke for the first time about the possibility of signing for City as he prepared to fly to Abu Dhabi to join up with the Ivory Coast squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. “It’s good to hear [City are interested]. Every player wants to play in the Champions League,” said Bony, who confirmed a medical had yet to take place. “The discussions are going on, we don’t know what’s happened, now I just focus on the national team.”
Francis Kacou, Bony’s agent, suggested a deal was imminent with City, who are keen to increase their attacking options, with Sergio Agüero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic the only three recognised strikers in Manuel Pellegrini’s ranks.
“Talks are going on but we hope that something will happen soon,” Kacou told Sky Sports News. “It looks like it’s going to happen. There are rumours about other clubs but at the moment it is just City.”
Asked what was holding things up, Kacou said: “It’s about small details, about money, but I think it will be done in a few days.”
