Wildfires continue to burn across farmlands in northern Spain

Multiple wildfires have been wreaking havoc in Spain, particularly in northern regions as record-breaking temperatures continue to hit southern Europe. Thousands of people were evacuated from their homes in the affected areas, as efforts to extinguish the flames continue.

Tinder dry conditions and strong winds have made battling the fires more challenging. Authorities have blocked off roads in nearby towns and small villages in a bid to contain the spread of the wildfires.

In the small town of Molezuelas de Carballeda in Zamora, Military Emergency Unit personnel worked overnight into Monday to tackle the blazes. The fire was spreading rapidly and had reached an agriculture business, affecting a greenhouse and several outhouses.

Residents of the village of Carucedo, in the province of Castilla Leon, were evacuated over the weekend as the fires reached the residential areas of the municipality. Officials said the winds are helping carry the flame farther and continue to pose a serious threat.

Six wildfires have engulfed the province which firefighters are still working on extinguishing. The area remains on high alert due to two of those fires being within critical distance of inhabited zones.

Officials say 30,000 people were evacuated from the small village of Yeres as fires continue to inch closer.
